A Hero In My Eyes

I know how you feel ‘cause I’ve walked in your shoes

All those nights filled with black and shades of blue

And now I know those memories are hurting you like hell

And you see yourself as just an empty shell

You’re gonna feel that wound until your last tear drops

Though scars will remain, at least the bleeding will have stopped

For so many years now you’ve been bondaged in shame

And no one deserves to be in that much pain

But I guarantee you will survive

You’ll grow up to be a hero... in my eyes

Like so many of us you grew up too fast

And like so many more you can’t stop living in the past

Now I know you’ve been self-medicating, and your still in denial

You’ve been trying to silence that inner child

You keep saying the world hasn’t treated you so fair

Please don’t pity yourself and think that no one cares

You’ll understand someday you weren’t to blame

You’ll hold your head up high and I’ll do the same

You’ll grow up to be a hero... in my eyes

Now you can trust me and sleep safe tonight

There's no more monsters in that shadowy light

A new light will protect you and guide you on your way

Your faith will shine and you’ll be comforted everyday
